Jacinta's 2nd Birthday Party

Jacinta's birthday party was held a few weeks ago. Up until about a month before the party, I did not have a theme in mind. I wasn't sure if I was going to do a themed party or just decorate everything in pink and girlie things. Then, I remembered how I enjoyed reading Water for Elephants and decided right away that I wanted to do a circus theme. However, I did not want the circus style to be that of recent time. I wanted it to be the style as described in the book which was set in the 1930's.

The Birthday Girl

It was an early Sunday afternoon birthday party this year. I chose Sunday because Saturday was Tasha's real birthday day.

I am really appreciative of parties, in general, that my Mom, Ate Trisa and Jo Anne host because having a party at one's house is truly a lot of preparation and work. I usually kind of just arrive at their parties, completely oblivious to the behind-the-scenes chaos. So, with great admiration and gratitude, THANK YOU for all the parties that we've ever attended and will attend in the future! You guys make everything look easy.

Yesterday, when we attended Danielle's 2nd Birthday party Georgie made a funny comment to my brother. He said, "At your parties, you worry about if there are enough people who will come. At our parties, we worry about if there is enough food!" This was especially true at Jacinta's party. I really thought we did not have enough food for everyone. But, because my Mom was involved, all went well.

The menu included:

  • Salad -- Fabi's recipe. Everyone loved it!

  • Fried chicken -- my Mom brought a lot. Thank goodness, because without the chicken, everyone would have been hungry.

  • Meatballs -- Thank you, Ate Trisa!

  • Hot dogs -- This is what I served. And, it wasn't enough!

  • Fruit tray -- Jo Anne labored to cut up those fruits!

I also had popcorn ready for everyone as they arrived. On the dining room table, Ate Trisa displayed the various treats I had for all the children. The treats included: cotton candy, lollipops, gum, Tootsie Rolls, chocolate covered coins and taffy apples.

As a way to entertain the kids, we had them decorate the balloons with stickers and decorate their own goody bags. The piñata was the shape of a popcorn box. (Kids hitting Dora would probably have been too disturbing.) Darius made balloon animals, which was a big hit! And, JJ was given the 'tattoo' corner where he tattooed almost every child. Jacinta got three: one on the arm, one on her cheek and one on the back, below the nape of her neck. Joaquin got one on the arm but he did not like it at all so Fabi had to scrub his arm until it was completely off.

Ate Trisa and I thought about a couple of other games that we wanted the kids to play, but the time went by too fast. We had Bozo buckets as well as ring toss.

I ordered cupcakes from Rowie this year. They were really good and I think the children enjoyed the sugar high. I know Richard did!

We saw so many family and friends whom we have not seen for a while. And, of course, the people we see more often made the event really fun! It was a wonderful time. Thank you to everyone who came and shared this time with us!

I tried to email people who came to the party to share their memories with me so that I can post it here, but only a handful responded. All you others suck. I can say this because you probably won't read this anyway. ;-)

Kristine: "For me, I enjoyed meeting George's relatives from Ecuador, since we will be visiting there in September."

Natalie: "I dont know this guy, but he had a black hat on with glasses. He was beyond hysterical! =) "

Carol: "Seeing how happy all the children were celebrating Jacinta's birthday."

Tristan: "mine would be feeding Joaquin 3 whole hotdogs! It was so nice to hear him say "more." That was also the first time I used my new baby: A Nikon D700!"

My dearest Jacinta, you were as cute as ever. Happy 2nd Birthday to you! We love you withal our hearts.

Jqn loves playing...

Dress Chica on the iphone...

It's a trip that he keeps dressing her in the bumblebee costume when
he is fearful of bugs especially bumblebees.

Bumblebees are my secret weapon for having a compliant Jqn, for Jcnt-
it's the police...

These Kids crack me up!

It's not smiles all the time, is it?

Jqn probably tired and wanting his way with the iphone...

Jcnt: She did it!

Jacinta made pee-pee in the potty this morning. Nice!

How it happened. Georgie -- as we do every morning -- woke up Jacinta to change her diaper. This morning, Georgie shouted, "No pee pee, Jacinta?" So, the next thought that came to mind and which I relayed to Georgie, "Bring her to the potty!"

Georgie brought her and put her on the potty. Jacinta did not like this at all. She began crying and complaining on having been placed on the potty first thing in the morning. And then, a few seconds later, she stopped. Jacinta looked me in the eye and a split second later, she began peeing. It was, as they say, music to my ears.

Jacinta, I praised you as much and as excitedly as I could so that you will remember that this thing you just did is something good. We even gave you a mini bag of M&M's. Of course, for the rest of the day, you made pee pee in your diaper and not in the potty again.

All the same, I wanted to document this moment, picture and all.

Before she can say..."Are we there yet?"

Wouldn't be nice if they could all entertain themselves this way!

Jqn had one his moments of bliss too...but alas he "deleted" it.

July 4th

We're back from Madison!

These family photos are few-and-far-between.

The photo above took three tries by our server. This is the last of the three. It involved Georgie holding out the iPhone with his right hand (as you can see) while I bribed him (Joaquin) saying that if he didn't look at the camera he wouldn't be able to 'Dress Chica' (Sprout game downloaded on the iPhone) on the phone.

Had dinner at one of our favorite Joaquin-and-Jacinta-friendly restaurants.

We always try to be seated in a booth if the restaurant has them. It is our best bet in keeping Joaquin and Jacinta from wandering around the restaurant saying 'Hi!' to everyone who would make eye contact with them. That, and we just need a few more precious minutes to bite into our food!

Joaquin is getting more and more interested in the kids menus that usually have games and puzzles.

Happy 4th of July!
