Pangela's Birthday Dinner

Tonight, I went out to dinner with my girls: Jiyoung, Sue, Pangela and Joy. We celebrated Pangela's birthday!

Appropo?

Jiyoung and Pangela. Those daisies were beautiful, Ji!

Pangela and Joy. Your eyes are open, Joy!

Me and Pangela

Some highlights
  • Having Jiyoung and Sue over our house before heading to the restaurant. Joaquin and Jacinta loved their being there.
  • Arriving at the restaurant and seeing Pangela and Joy. We hadn't seen each other since our last Breakfast Club!
  • Tasting the different flavored iced teas ordered by Pangela and Joy.
  • Pangela having everyone taste Joy's iced tea before Joy even had the chance to taste it.
  • The toast. :-)
  • Listening to Joy's stories.
  • Eating my halibut. Yummy!
  • Singing 'Happy Birthday' to Pangela.
  • Vowing to see each other soon(er)!
  • We laughed about something else, but now I cannot recall what it was. Joy, you said your tummy was hurting from laughing so hard!

Lovely cheekbones.

Us.

Happy Birthday, Pangela!

Long Grove Strawberry Fest

We went today! Thank you, Mo, for suggesting that we go there. What a gorgeous day to have been out and about.

Mo with the babies.

Roasted corn.

We planned to meet up with Mo at 12:15pm. But -- and I don't know when we will outgrow the tardiness -- we were late. We got there at 12:30pm, but didn't find a parking space until around 12:50pm. The parking lot that was closest to the festival was crazy busy. We tried and tried, but to no avail. Finally, we decided to park along the road that led to the festival and we got lucky. We found a space that was about 200 paces from the hullabaloo.

The Turtle. Mo, we should have taken a picture by it!

Joaquin did not want to cooperate...

... While Jacinta was interested enough to see the picture after it was taken.

Mo was at the other end of the fest, of course, and she had to walk over to us. Thank you sooo much for doing that. I really can't wait until the babies are able to walk on their own and not be afraid to do so. Even with their petite-ness, they get terribly heavy especially when the temperature is hot.

Mo arrived with a surprise for me. I love surprises! She had a bag that contained gum (you know me so well, Missy) and a coin purse that says, "COFFEE.... THE LAST CHEAP DRUG". I love it!

The sun was surely bright.

Flowers

In order of food consumption, we had strawberry donuts (dipped in too much sugar, I thought), pulled pork sandwiches (Mo liked the chocolate bbq sauce), brats and hot dogs (Joaquin and Jacinta liked!) and chocolate covered strawberries (everyone loved!). I think I probably would have eaten much more if I had not been so anxious. Oh, I almost forgot, we bought a bag of popcorn for the babies on our way back to the car!

Georgie and I, and Mo and I, decided that we would return some time in the Fall or maybe when there isn't a festival. The crowd was definitely too much, especially with two crazy toddlers running around.

Again, what a gorgeous day. Joaquin and Jacinta are outside right now playing with Georgie. I'm getting dinner ready -- fried chicken and fries -- and writing this entry.

Happy Sunday!

Chocolate covered strawberries!

You do not talk about 'Fight Club'

I took the picture above after Joaquin woke up from a much needed nap... having fought in the Fight Club and all. I felt so sorry for him.

The pictures below were taken an hour or so later. Good as new.

After Joaquin's tripping accident, I told Georgie that Joaquin and Jacinta are not allowed to play outside unless they're wearing long pants and a helmet. Eh, might as well throw in the face mask and elbow pads. Oh, and while we're at it we should take out the concrete pavement and cover the area with AstroTurf.

For the one who makes things happen

When we first met, I thought, wow... this guy is a total bum, but he's sooo cute. That was almost 21 years ago. (You know what I mean.)

I like bringing up this memory because it puts a smile to my face. And, I love talking about it to people because you have always had an unpredictability about you when it comes to how you are viewed by people.

I love how we laugh so hard together that neither of us can breathe or talk -- we try to make each of our points while laughing -- and our eyes start tearing. Those guys, Georgie! Over... there!

I love how you move your toes -- especially your big toes -- when you are thinking or excited about reading something.

I love your karate moves when you try to make me laugh.

I love how you make Joaquin and Jacinta laugh when you play with them.

I love your Wiggles impersonations. It makes us all laugh!

I appreciate very much everything that you do, especially the ones that you may think I overlook. Without your incredible multi-tasking in the mornings, our children would be going to school in their pajamas, the cats won't be given fresh food and water and I would be going to work looking like a train wreck.

You amaze me all the time with your countless ideas. Always thinking. Always learning. Never wanting to settle.

I love how I can ask you to get me a glass of water in the middle of the night because I know you won't remember it in the morning. Alright, this one I haven't tried yet but I've often been tempted because it's true -- you won't remember!

I love you because you and I know how to make each other feel okay. When it all comes down to it, a thought as simple as saying, "we are okay" goes a long way.

I love you forever.

Happy Father's Day!

Jacinta's 2nd Birthday!

Dear Jacinta,

You're two years old today! Happy, Happy (Sprout) Birthday to you!

Although, these days, we hardly watch TV programs anymore. We mostly watch older shows and movies on my Roku or the instant play on Netflix. The Wiggles has made it to your growing list of favorite shows. Ahoy there! You laugh out loud when Daddy says this. Actually, two days ago on our way home you copied Daddy by saying, "hoyer!" followed by lots of giggles.

You seem to be progressing nicely with learning words -- their meaning and pronunciation. It's kind of tough sometimes because you look up to Joaquin so much that you often-times copy things from him that we are trying to teach him not to say or do.

A good example of this is Joaquin's bad habit of asking for things by using one word. Well, 'the word' prefixed with the "ah" sound. (It seems Joaquin has contracted the words "I" and "want" to "ah". Ah-dum (gum). Ah-water. Ah-movie. Ah-window down.

And, of course, you tend to ask for things this way. Come on, Miss Jacinta, help us teach your Kuya how to speak properly!

The lesson for you here is: You do not always have to follow everything that a person does who you look up to.

This past year, you've been on a plane once when we visited Fabi and Chalo in Florida. We also traveled to one other state; Memphis. Other than these two travels, we stayed within the state. (Hint to Daddy: Want to travel more.)

People might be surprised to know that you are still nursing, but only at night. It looks like my hopes of having you off the boob before you turned two will have to be extended to the end of the year. Sooner, if possible, please.

Jacinta, I love how your hair is growing out. You haven't had your hair cut yet since you were born. I'm glad that you actually listen to me when I try to fix your hair. You usually stay still or turn your head when I ask. A couple of weeks ago, Ate Krystal was even able to braid your hair!

I think it is so cute when you ask to brush your teef. I have a hunch that your wanting to brush your teeth have 100% to do with the toothpaste.

Another tidbit about you... the first color that you have identified is pink. What else?

I love
  • Waking up next to you and seeing you smile, even as your eyes are still trying to adjust to the morning light.
  • When you say, "Hot. Hot." as we give you warm food or beverage.
  • When you say, "toppee." (coffee)
  • When you say, "I want _____, please." You say it with such good manners.
  • Watching you look at things for the first time. Your curiosity is so endearing.
  • Making you laugh.
  • When you say, "Hand. Hand." as you take our hand to lead us somewhere.
  • Seeing you crinkle your eyebrows. It's your way of trying to mimic our faces when we make faces at you.
  • When you take your hand(s) and push your hair out of your face.
  • Seeing you play with my iPhone. How the heck did you know to slide your finger to the side to unlock it??
  • When you run. As Lola has pointed out, you run like she walks; swaying hips and all.
  • Watching your bond with Joaquin grow stronger each day.
  • That you know that Mama drinks wine and Daddy drinks beer.
  • When you tell us which song to sing (next).
  • That you say, "Hi!" to people who pass you by.
  • When you make sure to kiss me or give me a hug because Joaquin doesn't want to.

All these I love about you. But, what I would love most of all, is no more diapers!

I love you withal my heart and withal my soul.

Love,

Mama

Jacinta's 2nd Birthday Eve

As happy as can be. I asked Jacinta to cross her legs -- she crosses her feet. And she said, "Cheeeeeees!" Love it!

This was taken with my iPhone. Wouldn't you know it? My camera ran out of juice and I couldn't wait.
