Halloween 2009

I really, really wanted us to be The Wiggles this year. I had it all planned out months before. It was going to be an easy costume to make for all four of us. Jacinta would be yellow, Joaquin would be red, Georgie would be purple and I would be the blue Wiggle. Well, my laziness got the best of me. We'll see what happens next year, my lovies.

My little pageant queen.

Lola to the rescue! Lola, having just returned from the Philippines just a week ago, brought for Joaquin and Jacinta three costumes; two for Jacinta and one for Joaquin.

This year, Joaquin was a king and Jacinta was Cinderalla (for Elizabeth's birthday party -- thank you, Ate Trisa, for giving Jacinta this cute costume!), a queen (for about 5 minutes... and she looked more like a pageant contestant) and then eventually a cute little belly dancer. The queen gown had a lace trim that made Jacinta's skin feel itchy.

You guys are sooo cute!

Grandma Fabi gave Joaquin and Jacinta their trick-or-treat bags. Joaquin's was Frankenstein and Jacinta's was a pumpkin.

It wasn't good trick-or-treating weather this year. The temperature was cold and it had rained all day the day before. We took Joaquin and Jacinta to a mall where we met with my brother's family. It wasn't the same as walking around a neighborhood and knocking on people's doors, but it had to do. I think Jqn and Jcnt had a nice time anyway, especially riding in the $5 car cart that can be rented at the mall.

The cousins.

Riding the magic cart.

We certainly enjoyed watching them.

Afterward, we went to James and Joyce's house for a nice Halloween party. (Thank you for hosting it!)

And, today, we visited Lolo Onnes and Nanay Zeny. Going to the cemetery reminded me a little -- just a little bit -- of when we use to celebrate 'Fiesta Ng Patay' in the Philippines. I always like talking to Georgie about it because my memories of them are some of the fondest.

We would travel down to Dagupan City where my Lolo and Lola are buried. All our family would meet there. The fiesta began in the morning and lasted through late at night. People would have tents set up around the grave. There was also food for the whole day. My cousins and I looked forward to twilight because it meant we could properly start playing with the candles. It was also more fun walking and running around the cemetery at night.

Happy Halloween!
